INL National University Consortium – Annual Report 15 NUC and CAES Teamed Up for Unique CINR-focused Workshop The National University Consortium and the Center for Advanced Energy Studies (CAES) teamed up to host a Consolidated Innovative Nuclear Research (CINR)- focused workshop in August 2018. The CINR funding opportunity from the Department of Energy’s Office of Nuclear Energy includes work scopes from the Nuclear Energy University Program (NEUP), the Nuclear Energy Enabling Technologies (NEET) program, and the Nuclear Science User Facilities (NSUF) program, and focuses on financing diverse research projects that support DOE’s research priorities. For the joint workshop, researchers from all of INL’s strategic partner universities were invited to meet with INL researchers and discuss ideas for specific work scopes. Each breakout session focused on one or more work scopes and was led by an INL researcher who gave an overview of INL’s research priorities related to the work scope. University researchers then had the opportunity to meet individually with the INL representative to discuss their specific ideas and ways to collaborate with INL. MIT Hosts Workshop on the Future of Nuclear Energy In collaboration with INL, Massachusetts Institute of Technology held The Symposium on Realizing the Value of Nuclear Energy led by MIT professor, Michael Golay. The conference brought together nuclear energy experts, government officials, and public opinion and communications experts from across the globe with the goal of producing concrete action plans to ensure nuclear energy is a part of government plans to address the world’s growing energy needs.
