During the expo, students showcased the research they accomplished during their time at INL. Students like Kofi Oware Sarfo, a Ph.D. intern from Oregon State University, under the guidance of his mentor, Yongfeng Zhang, modeled corrosion of stainless steel. John Kuczek, a Ph.D. intern from The Ohio State University, also participated in the expo along with his intern research group, which studied isotope production at the Advanced Test Reactor that could be used for deep- space missions. In addition, awards were handed out during the expo including to Weston Tice (left), an intern from the University of New Mexico. For his internship project, Tice worked with seven other interns to examine INL’s labwide procedures to determine areas for improvement to eliminate confusion. After the summer was over, Tice turned his internship into a full-time position, and now works in Business Management as a planning and financial controls specialist.
