18 DESLONDE DE BOISBLANC DISTINGUISHED POSTDOCTORAL APPOINTMENT In 2017, INL created the Deslonde de Boisblanc Distinguished Postdoctoral Appointment, which is competitively awarded to early-career researchers who have leadership potential and embody de Boisblanc’s spirit of ingenuity. De Boisblanc is most well known for designing the Advanced Test Reactor’s famous clover-leaf core. INL announced the first two appointees in August 2017. Dr. Thomas V. Holschuh II has a doctorate in nuclear engineering from Oregon State University. Dr. Abdalla Abou Jaoude earned his doctorate in nuclear and radiological engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. “  The arrival of the first two Deslonde de Boisblanc Distinguished Postdoctoral appointments will help inspire our research and bring fresh perspectives to INL – something that will leave a lasting impact.” —Dr. Kelly Beierschmitt, INL deputy laboratory director for science and technology GREAT ACCOMPLISHMENTS Our postdocs go on to do some amazing things. In 2017, INL postdocs published 70 presentations, publication articles, and proceedings in peer-reviewed journals including Acta Materialia, the Journal of Applied Physics, Catalysis Today, the International Journal of Electrical Power & Energy Systems, Catalysts, and the Journal of Nanomedicine Research. INL postdoctoral researcher Bishnu P. Bhattarai won a Green Talents 2017 award from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.The annual international competition recognizes young scientists working in the area of sustainability R&D. One joined Texas A&M as a research professor, another became a research professor at South Carolina State University, and the third is now a postdoctoral research associate at MIT.
