INL National University Consortium – Annual Report 4 Massachusetts Institute of Technology With 89 Nobel laureates, 58 National Medal of Science winners, and 48 MacArthur Fellows, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology works to “advance knowledge and educate students in science, technology, and other areas of scholarship that will best serve the nation and the world in the 21st century.” As part of this mission, MIT collaborated with INL on 13 research projects, including six direct-funded projects, three LDRD projects and four externally funded projects. In addition, MIT has a long history of being at the forefront of innovation. In FY-18, this legacy was continued with the latest of its “Future of” series of publications released. The latest edition, “The Future of Nuclear Power in a Carbon-Constrained World,” was led by INL director and MIT joint appointee David Petti, and focused on the current global stall of nuclear energy capacity.
