15 both the university and mission needs of INL. For example, past co-op students alternated a semester or quarter of work with a semester on campus. Some areas that INL has already identified for future co-ops include: fire protection engineering, cybersecurity, computational modeling and simulation, and materials science and engineering. INL GRADUATE FELLOWS The 2017 inaugural year of the INL Graduate Fellowships program focused on recruiting fellows from CAES and NUC schools. While piloted with these universities, the program is now open to all universities. In September 2017, INL named its first 11 INL Graduate Fellows. The recipients of these competitive fellowships have their tuition and fees covered by their university during their first years of graduate school (years one to three) and their tuition and fees plus a $60,000 annual salary paid by INL during the last two years of their doctoral research performed at the lab.
